Activating Bitdefender Antivirus Plus 1 device
This guide only applies to activating the Bitdefender Antivirus Plus 1 device license. It does not describe the installation of the program. For Bitdefender, activation takes place on the Bitdefender Central account, not through a local licensing mechanism known from slmgr.vbs or ospp.vbs.
Activating with a product key
Method 1: GUI in the browser via Bitdefender Central
This is the primary and recommended activation method.
- Open
https://central.bitdefender.com. - Log in to your Bitdefender Central account.
- Go to
My Subscriptions. - Click
+ Activate with code. - Enter the product key and select
ACTIVATE. - If prompted, decide whether to add a new subscription or extend an existing compatible subscription.
Important:
- The Bitdefender key can only be activated once and is assigned to one Central account.
- After activation, the key is not re-entered on each computer.
- In online purchases, activation is sometimes automatic if the purchase is linked to the same account.
Method 2: GUI from the Bitdefender application
If the program is already installed, activation still takes place through the Bitdefender Central account.
- Open the Bitdefender application.
- Log in to the same Bitdefender Central account where the license should be visible.
- If the license has already been activated in Central, the application will download the subscription status after logging in.
- If it has not been activated yet, go to Central and use the
My Subscriptions>+ Activate with codeoption.
This is an important distinction: the program's interface can be used to log in and associate the device, but the product key for the consumer version is activated on the central.bitdefender.com side.
Method 3: using CMD as a shortcut to the activation page
Bitdefender Antivirus Plus does not provide an official activation command in the style of slmgr.vbs /ipk or ospp.vbs /inpkey. In CMD, you can only open the proper activation panel in the browser:

Method 4: telephone activation with support
If you cannot activate the key yourself, prepare:
- the product key,
- the email address of the Bitdefender Central account,
- proof of purchase,
- a screenshot of the error message.

Activation Verification
Bitdefender does not have an official local command of the type verify activation. Verification is performed through the account and application status.
Verification in the Browser
Open the subscription page:

Check:
- if

1, - if it shows the expiration date,
- if the device is assigned to an active subscription.
Verification in the Application
Open Bitdefender and confirm that:

- the product does not display an expiration message,
- the subscription is active and synchronised with Central.
Device Verification in Central
Open:

In the device list, check if the computer is visible and if its status corresponds to active protection.
Activation Troubleshooting
Bitdefender often displays text messages instead of classic error codes. In practice, these messages serve as error codes.
INVALID_CODE / Oops, the code you have entered is invalid
Meaning: typo, incorrect format, or invalidated key.
What to do:
- enter the code again manually,
- remember that the code usually has
7or10characters, - the character
0can be confused withO, andIwith1, - if it still doesn't work, contact support.
ALREADY_USED / This key was already used to generate a subscription
Meaning: the key has already been activated on another Central account.
What to do:
- log in to another previously used email address,
- check if the subscription is not already active on the old account,
- if the key was supposed to be new, report the issue to the seller or support.
ACCOUNT_NOT_ELIGIBLE / Your account is not eligible for this type of license
Meaning: the account does not qualify for this type of license, usually for promotional codes.
What to do:
- use another Bitdefender Central account,
- do not try to apply a promotional code to an incompatible paid subscription,
- if it's a full retail license, ask support to verify.
REGION_RESTRICTED / This code is restricted in your region
Meaning: the code has a regional block.
What to do:
- activate it in the country of purchase,
- compare the region of the store and the region of the account,
- if the code should not have a block, contact the seller.
KEY_EXPIRED / Your license key is expired
Meaning: the key's validity has expired.
What to do:
- check the purchase date,
- make sure you are using the correct code,
- if the purchase was recent, file a complaint with proof of purchase.
MIGRATION_FAILED / We weren’t able to migrate your key
Meaning: the old key does not qualify for the current subscription model or applies to an old product version.
What to do:
- confirm that it's a key for the current consumer version,
- do not use old trial or legacy codes,
- provide support with the order number.
GENERIC_ACTIVATION_ERROR / There was an error activating your subscription. Please try again later
Meaning: a temporary error on the service side or connection.
What to do:
- wait a few hours,
- log out and log back in to Central,
- try in a different browser or network.

What to do if the key does not work
If the key does not work, follow this order:
- Check if you are logging in to the correct Bitdefender Central account.
- Verify that the code was entered without error.
- Ensure that it is a retail code for
Bitdefender Antivirus Plus, and not a promotion or old key. - Check if the code has already been used.
- Verify the purchase region.
- Prepare proof of purchase and a screenshot of the error.

Reactivation after hardware change
Changing hardware does not require a new key, as long as the subscription is still active on the same account.
Procedure:
- Log in to

My Devices. - Remove the old device to free up the only available space.
- On the new computer, log in to the same Bitdefender account.
- The program will download the active subscription from Central.
If the old device is no longer available, removing it from My Devices usually suffices. If the limit still does not refresh, contact support.
