Microsoft Office 2019 Standard Activation Guide

This instruction applies to a legally licensed Microsoft Office 2019 Standard package. Before activation, prepare the correct product key or ensure that your organisation uses MAK or KMS activation.

Before You Start

Check if there are multiple versions of the Office package on your computer. Parallel installation of Microsoft 365, Office 2016, or trial editions from the computer manufacturer often causes activation errors. It is safest to leave only the version you actually want to activate.

If the problem concerns antivirus software, do not activate it with Office tools. Activate security software only through the antivirus manufacturer's website or its official customer panel.

Method 1: Activation from the Office Interface

This is the simplest method for users who have a product key or an assigned licence.

1. Launch Word or Excel.
2. Go to File -> Account.
3. Click Activate product or Change product key.
4. Enter the 25-character product key.
5. Log in to your Microsoft account if the installer requires it.
6. Wait for the online verification to complete.

After successful activation, a message like Product activated should appear in the File -> Account section.

Method 2: Activation via Command Line using ospp.vbs

The ospp.vbs script is used to manage the Office licence. In Office 2019, it is usually located in the Office16 directory.

First, open the Command Prompt as administrator and navigate to the correct path:

cd /d "%ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Office\Office16"

If you have 32-bit Office on a 64-bit system, use:

cd /d "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Microsoft Office\Office16"

When activation does not respond or stops without a message:

slmgr.vbs primarily concerns the Windows licensing mechanism, but it can be helpful in diagnosing the activation environment, especially in KMS scenarios.

Run Command Prompt as administrator and execute:

cscript %windir%\system32\slmgr.vbs /dlv

The command displays licensing service details. In a corporate environment, it helps confirm whether the KMS host and system activation components are working correctly.

How the activation process works:

1. Open Word or Excel and start the activation process.
2. Select the telephone activation option, if available.
3. Prepare the Installation ID displayed on the screen.
4. Call the number 00 800 121 1654.
5. Follow the instructions of the automated system or consultant.
6. Enter the received Confirmation ID.
7. Confirm the activation.

If you see a message in a given licensing channel that telephone activation is no longer supported, use internet activation or contact the license administrator.

Verification Commands

After activation, check the package status:

cscript ospp.vbs /dstatus

For a more detailed view:

cscript ospp.vbs /dhistorykms
cscript ospp.vbs /dcmid

Verification of the system licensing mechanism:

cscript %windir%\system32\slmgr.vbs /dli

Run cmd as an administrator and ensure that security policies do not block licensing scripts.

Invalid data or corrupted licensing state.
Office installation repair, restart of the licensing service, and re-running ospp.vbs /act may help.

Invalid, blocked, or incompatible product key.
Verify that the key is for Office 2019 Standard and not for another version.

Insufficient permissions to perform the operation.
Close Office, run the Command Prompt as an administrator, and repeat the commands.

Continuous Activation Request Message

Often indicates a conflict with a pre-installed version of Microsoft 365 or another Office edition.
Uninstall unused versions, restart the computer, and check cscript ospp.vbs /dstatus.

Do not enter multiple different keys "for testing". First, check the package edition, licensing channel, and activation status.
