Activation Guide: Bitdefender Antivirus Plus — 1 Device, 12 Months

This guide concerns the activation of the Bitdefender Antivirus Plus license for 1 device for 12 months.
For antivirus programs, activation is performed through the manufacturer's account and customer panel, i.e., Bitdefender Central.
Do not use ospp.vbs or slmgr.vbs for this purpose, as these are tools related to the activation of Microsoft products, not Bitdefender packages.

Before You Begin

Prepare:

  • the Bitdefender activation key,
  • an active internet connection,
  • a Bitdefender Central account or the email address you want to use to create one,
  • administrator privileges in the Windows system.

It is best to activate the license first on the manufacturer's website and then link it to the application installed on your computer.


Method 1: Activation via Graphical Interface

This is the simplest and recommended method.

Step 1: Log in to Bitdefender Central

  1. Open the website: https://central.bitdefender.com
  2. Log in to your existing account or create a new one.
  3. After logging in, go to the section for adding subscriptions.

Step 2: Add the Activation Code

  1. In the Bitdefender Central panel, select the option to Activate code or a similar section regarding subscriptions.
  2. Enter the received code.
  3. Confirm the activation.
  4. After successful assignment of the license, an active subscription should appear: Bitdefender Antivirus Plus.

Step 3: Install or Connect the Application to Your Account

If the program is not yet installed:

  1. In the Central panel, select your device or the option to install protection.
  2. Download the installer.
  3. Run the installation and complete the configuration.

If Bitdefender is already installed:

  1. Open the Bitdefender application on your computer.
  2. Log in to the same Bitdefender Central account.
  3. The program should automatically download the information about the active subscription.

Method 2: Activation Using CMD

The command line is not used here to enter the key directly into the Windows system.
However, it can be used to quickly open the Bitdefender panel, launch the application, and verify the status of services.

Open the Manufacturer's Activation Panel

Run the Command Prompt and enter:

start https://central.bitdefender.com

This command will open the Bitdefender Central website in your default browser. There, you enter the activation code.

Open the Installed Bitdefender Application

start "" "C:\Program Files\Bitdefender\Bitdefender Security App\bdagent.exe"

If the program was installed in a different location, the path may vary.

Check if Bitdefender Services Are Running

sc query | findstr /I "bd"

You can also check a specific service:

sc query VSSERV

If the service is working correctly, you will see the state RUNNING.

Check if the Computer Has an Internet Connection

ping central.bitdefender.com

Lack of response does not always mean an activation error, but it may indicate a problem with the network, DNS, or firewall.

Check Basic System Information

systeminfo | findstr /B /C:"OS Name" /C:"OS Version"

This is useful when activation fails due to an unsupported or outdated system version.


Method 3: Telephone Activation

If you are having trouble assigning the code, you can contact technical support.

  • the activation key,
  • the email address of your Bitdefender Central account,
  • the product name: Bitdefender Antivirus Plus,
  • variant information: 1 device / 12 months,
  • any error message visible on the screen.

During the conversation, the consultant may ask you to log in to Bitdefender Central, confirm the code, or reassign the subscription to your account.


How to Check if Activation was Successful

After activation, confirm three elements:

  • in Bitdefender Central, an active subscription is displayed,
  • the application on your computer shows active protection,
  • the program's services are working properly.

Quick Verification in CMD

sc query VSSERV
tasklist | findstr /I "bdagent"
wmic product get name | findstr /I "Bitdefender"

If the application is active, you will usually see the installed product and the running agent or protection services.


Most Common Errors and Solutions

1. "The activation code is incorrect"

The most common cause is a typo or pasting the code with extra spaces.
Enter the code again manually and make sure you activate it on the central.bitdefender.com page.

2. "This code has already been used"

The code may have been previously assigned to another Bitdefender Central account.
Log in to the correct account or contact support at 00 800 121 1654.

3. "Cannot connect to the activation server"

Check your Internet, DNS, firewall settings, and system date. Helpful commands:

ping central.bitdefender.com
ipconfig /flushdns

4. The program is installed, but it shows no subscription

This usually means that the application is not logged in to the account to which the license is assigned.
Log out of the Bitdefender application and log back in to the correct account.

5. "The subscription does not apply to this product"

The code may be intended for a different version or package of Bitdefender.
Check the product name compatibility with your purchase: Bitdefender Antivirus Plus.

6. The installer runs, but activation does not pass

The cause may be a previous antivirus program, damaged installation, or lack of system updates.
Uninstall conflicting software, restart your computer, and try again.

7. The protection service does not start

Verify the service status:

sc query VSSERV

If the service is not working, restart your system, check for Windows updates, and if necessary, reinstall Bitdefender from Bitdefender Central.


Important Note

For the Bitdefender Antivirus Plus program, activation is done through the manufacturer's account and the Bitdefender Central service.
Commands such as ospp.vbs and slmgr.vbs are not used to activate the antivirus and will not resolve license issues with Bitdefender.

  3. Add the activation code.
  4. Install the program or log in to the application with the same account.
