Activating Microsoft Windows 7 Professional
This guide describes the legal activation of the Microsoft Windows 7 Professional system using a valid product key. Before You Start
Prepare:

Note: The key must match the Windows 7 Professional edition exactly. A key from a different version, such as Home Premium or Ultimate, will not activate this edition.
Method 1: Activation through the Graphical Interface
This is the simplest method for most users.
- Click the Start button.
- Right-click Computer and select Properties.
- Scroll down to the Activate Windows section.
- Click Change product key.
- Enter the 25-character product key for Windows 7 Professional.
- Click Next.
- If the computer has internet access, the system will attempt to activate automatically.
- After completion, check if a confirmation message appears.
If everything went correctly, at the bottom of the system properties window, you should see a message stating that Windows is activated.
Method 2: Activation in the Command Line CMD
This method is useful when the activation window does not work properly or you want to perform the entire process manually.
Step 1: Run CMD as Administrator
- Click Start.
- In the search field, type
cmd. - Right-click cmd.exe.
- Select Run as administrator.
Step 2: Install the Product Key
Enter the command:
slmgr.vbs /ipk XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
Replace XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX with your correct product key.
After a moment, a window with key installation confirmation should appear.
Step 3: Run Online Activation
Then, enter:
slmgr.vbs /ato
This command sends an activation request to Microsoft's servers and attempts to activate the system online.
Step 4: Check the Result
If the operation is successful, you will see a message informing you of the correct activation. If an error appears, proceed to the section with typical problems.

Telephone activation is useful when internet activation does not work, the computer does not have a network connection, or the system reports a problem with automatic key verification.
How to Start Telephone Activation
- Press the
Win + Rkeys. - Type:

- Click OK.
- Select your country or region.
- The system will display the phone number to the activation centre and the Installation ID.

What to Do During the Call
Prepare:
- the installation ID displayed on the screen
- the product key
- a computer with the activation window open
During the connection:
- select Microsoft product activation
- provide the installation ID according to the instructions of the automated system or consultant
- receive the Confirmation ID
- enter it in the corresponding fields on the activation screen
- confirm and complete the process
If the data is accepted correctly, Windows 7 Professional will be activated.
Activation Verification
After completing the activation, it's worth checking the system status in two ways.
Checking in the Graphical Interface
- Click Start.
- Right-click Computer with the mouse.
- Select Properties.
- Read the Windows Activation section.
The correct message should inform you that the system is activated.
Checking in CMD
Run the command line as an administrator and type:
slmgr.vbs /dli
To get more detailed information, you can also use:
slmgr.vbs /dlv
Or check if the activation is permanent:
slmgr.vbs /xpr
If the system is activated correctly, you will see a message confirming the license status.
Most Common Errors and Solutions
1. Incorrect Product Key
Symptom: the system rejects the key when typing or after using slmgr.vbs /ipk.
Solution: check if the key applies to exactly Windows 7 Professional and if it does not contain typos.
2. No Internet Connection
Symptom: the slmgr.vbs /ato command fails.
Solution: check the network connection, firewall settings, and try again or use telephone activation.
3. Incorrect System Date and Time
Symptom: activation does not pass despite the correct key.
Solution: set the correct date, time, and time zone, and then repeat the attempt.
4. Key Already Used on Another Computer
Symptom: the system informs you that the key is already in use or the activation limit has been exceeded.
Solution: if the license allows it, use telephone activation and explain the situation to the consultant.
5. Lack of Administrator Privileges
Symptom: activation commands do not work or end with an access error.
Solution: run cmd.exe as an administrator and repeat the commands.
6. Key Does Not Match the Licensing Channel
Symptom: the key is correct, but activation still fails.
Solution: make sure you are using the correct type of license, such as OEM, Retail, or Volume, compatible with the system installation.
7. Damaged Activation Components
Symptom: the system returns unusual messages or does not open the activation window.
Solution: restart the computer, install missing system updates, and try to run slmgr.vbs /ipk again, and then slmgr.vbs /ato.
