However, it is worth remembering that technical support for Visio 2016 ended in October 2025. This means no standard functional updates and security fixes in the regular support channel. If you are buying Visio 2016 today, do so consciously — as a stable, older solution for specific applications.

Downloading the Installer
The method of downloading the installer depends on the type of licence.

- Office Deployment Tool — in some deployment scenarios or when installation is from a company repository.

If you have a retail key, and not a volume licence, the installer is usually downloaded through a Microsoft account:

Step-by-Step Installation
The MSI installer works in the classic wizard mode. Before starting:
- close all Office programs,
- uninstall conflicting versions of Visio or Project,
- check if you have a compatible 32-bit or 64-bit architecture.
1. Run the Installer
Open the installation file setup.exe from the ISO image or installation folder.
2. Accept the License Terms
In the installation wizard, select the acceptance of the license terms, and then proceed.
3. Choose the Installation Type
Usually, two options are available:
- Install Now — quick default installation,
- Customize — selection of features, location, and settings.
If you are deploying the program in a company, it is better to choose the customization option to check the target directory, component availability, and shortcut settings.
4. Specify the Installation Path
If the wizard allows it, select the target folder. In most cases, the default location is correct.
5. Start the Installation
Click the installation button and wait for the process to complete. After successful completion, you can run Visio 2016 Professional from the Start menu.
Product Key Activation
After installing the program, you need to activate it. This can be done in several ways.
Method 1: GUI
- Run Visio.
- Go to File → Account.
- Click Change product key.
- Enter the received key.
- Confirm and wait for activation.
Method 2: Command Line
Run Command Prompt as administrator.

As a result, you will see the license type, the last 5 characters of the key, and the activation status.

Troubleshooting
1. Error 0xC004F074
Problem with contacting the KMS activation service. Solution: check the key, synchronise the system clock, use internet or phone activation.
2. Error 0x8007007B
Incorrect KMS server name. Solution: remove the incorrect KMS configuration, re-enter the key, run internet activation.
3. MSI and Click-to-Run conflict
You cannot mix Office products installed with different technologies on the same computer. Solution: uninstall the Click-to-Run or MSI version to unify the technology, use the official Microsoft tool to remove Office.
4. Error "This product key is for the volume licensed version…"
The key does not match the installed media. Solution: download the correct installer, check if you are installing Visio 2016 Professional.
5. Error 0xC004C060
The key is invalid or has been blocked. Solution: check the correctness of the key, contact the seller, use phone activation.
6. Error 0xC004E016
The key does not match the installed product version. Solution: uninstall the incorrect edition, install the correct one (Standard or Professional).
7. ospp.vbs not found
Check both paths: Program Files and Program Files (x86), run the command with the full path.
