Error 0x80072EE2: Network operation timed out during activation
This error occurs in: Windows Server.
Cause
The connection to the activation server has timed out. This may indicate a slow connection, an unavailable KMS server, or a blocked port 1688.
Symptoms
- During activation, the message appears: "Network operation timed out during activation"
- Error code:
0x80072EE2 - English version: "The operation timed out"
Step-by-step solution
Check if TCP port 1688 is open to the KMS server. Test: Test-NetConnection <kms_host> -Port 1688. Check the network firewall policies.
Solution for Windows Server
- Open PowerShell as administrator
- Enter the key:
slmgr /ipk XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
- Activate:
slmgr /ato
- Check the status:
slmgr /xpr
Verification
After performing the steps, check if the activation was successful:
- Windows: Settings → System → Activation → should be "Windows is activated"
- Or:
slmgr /xprin the command line
