Error 0x80072F8F: SSL/TLS Security Error During Activation

This error occurs in: Windows 10, Windows 11, Office 2019, Office 2021, Office 2024.

Cause

SSL certificate error when connecting to activation servers. Often caused by incorrect date and time, or by antivirus/proxy performing SSL inspection.

Symptoms

• During activation, the message appears: "A security error occurred during activation"
• Error code: 0x80072F8F
• English version: "A security error occurred during activation"

Step-by-Step Solution

Check and correct the computer's date, time, and time zone. Temporarily disable SSL inspection in security software. Update Windows root certificates.

Method 1: Reactivation via Settings

1. Open Settings → System → Activation
2. Click Troubleshoot (if available)
3. Click Change product key
4. Enter the key from KluczeSoft and click Next → Activate

Method 2: Activation via Command Line

Open Command Prompt as administrator and enter:

slmgr /ipk XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
slmgr /ato

Replace XXXXX-... with your product key.

Method 3: Telephone Activation

If online activation does not work:

slui 4

Call the displayed number and follow the instructions.

Solution for Office

1. Open any Office application (Word, Excel)
2. File → Account → Change product key
3. Enter the key from KluczeSoft
4. Click Activate

Verification

After performing the steps, check if activation was successful:

• Windows: Settings → System → Activation → should be "Windows is activated"
• Or: slmgr /xpr in Command Prompt
• Office: File → Account → Status: "Product activated"
• Or: cscript ospp.vbs /dstatus
