Error 0x80074004: Activation failed — too many failed attempts
This error occurs in: Windows 10, Windows 11.
Cause
Microsoft has temporarily blocked online activation after too many failed attempts from the same IP address or for the same product key.
Symptoms
- During activation, the message appears: "Activation failed — too many failed attempts"
- Error code:
0x80074004 - English version: "Too many failed activation attempts"
Step-by-Step Solution
Wait 24 hours before attempting online activation again. You can also activate by phone at any time.
Method 1: Reactivation through Settings
- Open Settings → System → Activation
- Click Troubleshoot (if available)
- Click Change product key
- Enter your KluczeSoft key and click Next → Activate
Method 2: Activation via Command Line
Open Command Prompt as Administrator and enter:
slmgr /ipk XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
slmgr /ato
Replace XXXXX-... with your product key.
Method 3: Phone Activation
If online activation does not work:
slui 4
Call the displayed number and follow the instructions.
Verification
After performing the steps, check if activation was successful:
- Windows: Settings → System → Activation → should display "Windows is activated"
- Or:
slmgr /xprin the command line
