Error 0x80092328: DNS name does not exist (another KMS error)
This error occurs in: Windows Server.
Cause
Another variation of the DNS error — the KMS client cannot find the KMS server via DNS. Often related to the configuration of an isolated environment or VLAN.
Symptoms
- During activation, the message appears: "DNS name does not exist (another KMS error)"
- Error code:
0x80092328 - English version: "DNS name does not exist"
Step-by-step solution
Configure the KMS server address manually: slmgr.vbs /skms <server_address>. Or switch to MAK activation.
Solution for Windows Server
- Open PowerShell as administrator
- Enter the key:
slmgr /ipk XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
- Activate:
slmgr /ato
- Check the status:
slmgr /xpr
Verification
After performing the steps, check if the activation was successful:
- Windows: Settings → System → Activation → should be "Windows is activated"
- Or:
slmgr /xprin the command line
Still not working?
If the above steps did not help:
- Check the date and time — they must be correct (an incorrect date can block activation)
- Temporarily disable antivirus and try again
- Check the internet connection — online activation requires a connection to Microsoft servers
