Error 0xC004E015: Unable to complete activation — license is damaged

This error occurs in: Windows 10, Windows 11.

Cause

The Windows license file is damaged or incomplete. This can happen after a failed Windows update or interrupted installation.

Symptoms

• During activation, the message appears: "Unable to complete activation — license is damaged"
• Error code: 0xC004E015
• English version: "On-Licensing grace period has expired"

Step-by-step solution

Run the System File Checker tool: sfc /scannow in the command line as an administrator. Then, DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth. If this does not help, reinstall Windows.

Method 1: Reactivation through Settings

1. Open Settings → System → Activation
2. Click Troubleshoot (if available)
3. Click Change product key
4. Enter the key from KluczeSoft and click Next → Activate

Method 2: Activation through command line

Open Command Prompt as administrator and enter:

slmgr /ipk XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
slmgr /ato

Replace XXXXX-... with your product key.

Method 3: Phone activation

If online activation does not work:

slui 4

Call the displayed number and follow the instructions.

Verification

After completing the steps, check if the activation was successful:

• Windows: Settings → System → Activation → should be "Windows is activated"
• Or: slmgr /xpr in the command line
