Cause

The Office Retail product key has been used to activate on too many computers. The Retail key allows installation on only 1 computer (Home & Student) or 1-5 computers (Microsoft 365).

  • During activation, the message appears: "Product key activation limit exceeded"
  • Error code: 0xD0000024
  • English version: "The product key has been used on too many machines"

Step-by-Step Solution

Deactivate Office on the old computer: cscript ospp.vbs /deact or through office.com/myaccount > Installed services > Deactivate. Then activate on the new computer.

  1. Open any Office application (Word, Excel)
  2. FileAccountChange product key
  3. Enter the key from KluczeSoft
  4. Click Activate

Alternatively, through the command line:

cd "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office16"
cscript ospp.vbs /inpkey:XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
cscript ospp.vbs /act

Verification

After performing the steps, check if the activation was successful:

  • Office: File → Account → Status: "Product activated"
