When not to use this method

The ospp.vbs command applies to Office products, such as Project, Visio, or Office packages. It does not apply to Norton, Bitdefender, ESET, McAfee, or Avast antivirus software, as these are activated through an account or the manufacturer's website.

Activation verification

Check the activation status in File > Account. With correct activation, you will see information about the activated product.

Troubleshooting

"We can't verify this product key"

This usually means a typo, pasting the key into the wrong edition, or attempting to activate Project Professional with a Standard key. Check the product version and re-enter the key.

"This product key is for the volume-licensed version of Microsoft Project 2019"

This message appears when a different edition is installed than the one intended for the key. The solution is to uninstall the incorrect version and install the correct variant, Project Standard 2019.

"We’re sorry, Office installer encountered a problem"

The error usually results from a conflict with another Office installation, remnants of an older version, or a blocked installer. Removing the old Office/Project, restarting the computer, and reinstalling usually helps.

"Cannot install 64-bit version because 32-bit products were found"

This is a classic architecture conflict. You need to uninstall the 32-bit version or install Project 2019 in 32-bit, compatible with the rest of the Office package.

This usually involves a network connection issue, firewall, proxy server, or a temporary problem on the activation service side. Try again later, run CMD as an administrator, or use phone activation at 00 800 121 1654.

ospp.vbs is not recognized

This usually means running the command from the wrong directory. First, go to the Office16 folder, and then execute the cscript ospp.vbs commands.

Comparison of versions

Which version to choose

If you work independently and need classic project planning, Project 2019 Standard is still sufficient. However, if you care about longer support and a newer version, it is more reasonable to consider Project 2021. In a company environment, where collaboration and integration with server services matter, the Professional edition is a better choice.
