Office 2013 Professional Plus — LEGACY
Note: Office 2013 Professional Plus is a legacy product. Microsoft's extended support for Office 2013 ended in April 2023. This means no security patches, no bug fixes, and an increasing risk of compatibility issues. For new workstations and corporate environments, we recommend migrating to Office 2021 or Office 2024.
What's included
Office 2013 Professional Plus is a comprehensive office suite designed primarily for business users, offices, accounting, administration, and individuals who need classic desktop applications without a subscription.
The package typically includes:
- Word 2013
- Excel 2013
- PowerPoint 2013
- Outlook 2013
- OneNote 2013
- Publisher 2013
- Access 2013
- Lync 2013 / communication components depending on the media and installation version
The customer receives:
- a licence key to activate Office 2013 Professional Plus
- installation and activation instructions
- information on online or telephone activation methods
- technical support from the seller for product launch
What's important for sets and bundles
If the offer includes a package of several products, the following rule applies:
- each product has a separate key
- each key can be installed on a different computer, in accordance with the terms of the given licence
- purchasing in a bundle usually means real savings compared to buying each product separately
Practical example: if you order Office and Windows in one bundle, you receive a separate key for Windows and a separate key for Office. This allows you to activate them independently, also on different devices, if the licence permits.
Requirements and compatibility
Office 2013 is an older solution, so it's worth checking compatibility with your workstation before purchasing.
You should at least consider:
- a computer with a processor compatible with Office 2013 requirements
- a Windows system compatible with the Office 2013 installer
- sufficient RAM and free disk space
- administrator privileges for installation
- internet connection for online activation or access to telephone activation
In practice, you should remember a few limitations:
- Office 2013 works best in older and maintained environments
- on modern computers and current systems, compatibility issues may occur
- some integrations with Microsoft 365 services may work limitedly or not at all
- the package is not recommended for new deployments
If you care about security, compatibility, and a longer product lifecycle, a better choice will be Office 2021 or Office 2024.

Installation and Activation
Installation via Graphical Interface
- Download or run the Office 2013 Professional Plus installation media.
- Run the installer as an administrator.
- Choose the architecture compatible with your system and environment needs.
- Complete the installation according to the on-screen instructions.
- Open any application from the suite, for example, Word or Excel.
- Enter the received product key and run the activation.
Activation via Command Line
For Office, activation is done using the ospp.vbs script. Most often, you need to run the Command Prompt as an administrator and then navigate to the Office installation directory.
Example for 64-bit version:
cd /d "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office15"
cscript ospp.vbs /inpkey:XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
cscript ospp.vbs /act
Example for 32-bit version on a 64-bit system:
cd /d "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office15"
cscript ospp.vbs /inpkey:XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
cscript ospp.vbs /act
If you are activating a Windows system from a bundle, separate commands are used:
slmgr.vbs /ipk XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
slmgr.vbs /ato
Telephone Activation
If online activation fails, you can use Microsoft's telephone activation.
Phone number:
00 800 121 1654
During the conversation or in the automated system, have ready:
- installation ID
- product version
- product key
- access to the computer on which the activation is being performed
Activation Verification
After activation, it's a good idea to check the license status.
For Office:
cscript ospp.vbs /dstatus
Successful activation usually shows the licensing status as active and the ending of the installed key.
For Windows, if the product comes from a bundle:
slmgr.vbs /dlv
Additionally, you can verify the activation directly in the Office application by going to the Account or Help section, depending on the program.

Troubleshooting
1. Error: invalid product key
Possible causes:
- typo when entering the key
- using a key from another product
- attempting to activate Office with a Windows key or vice versa
Solution:
- check the key entry carefully
- ensure you are using the key assigned to the correct product
- in a bundle, remember that Office and Windows have separate keys
2. Error: lack of administrator privileges
Symptoms:
ospp.vbsorslmgr.vbscommands do not execute correctly- the system rejects key entry or activation
Solution:
- run the
Command Promptas administrator - disable user account restrictions only when necessary and in accordance with company policy
- repeat the commands after navigating to the correct Office directory
3. Error: online activation does not work
Possible causes:
- no internet connection
- network firewall or antivirus blocking communication
- limitations on the legacy product side
Solution:
- check internet connection
- temporarily verify firewall settings
- use phone activation:
00 800 121 1654
4. Error: ospp.vbs not found
Possible causes:
- entering the wrong directory
- different installation architecture than assumed
Solution:
- check the
Office15folder - verify both paths:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office15C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office15
In the case of antivirus products, activation usually takes place through the manufacturer's website, not through
slmgr.vbsorospp.vbs.
In the case of CAL, the client receives a license document, as CAL is not installed software like a classic program.
Comparison with alternatives
Office 2013 Professional Plus
Advantages:
- classic interface and familiar applications
- good solution for older environments
- one-time license without subscription
Disadvantages:
- support ended in April 2023
- no security updates
- worse compatibility with modern environments and services
Office 2021
This is a reasonable choice for companies that want to stay with a perpetual license but need a newer and more secure package.
Office 2024
The best option for users expecting the longest possible product lifecycle, better compatibility, and a more modern work environment without switching to a subscription.
Summary
Office 2013 Professional Plus is a solution for those who need an older office package for an existing environment and consciously choose a legacy product. However, it must be clearly emphasized that support ended in April 2023, so the purchase should mainly concern maintaining older workstations, not new deployments.
If you care about security, compatibility, and longer support, migration to Office 2021 or Office 2024 is recommended. In case of problems with online activation, use phone activation with Microsoft at 00 800 121 1654. For any other issues, please contact [email protected].
