Before you start

Microsoft Project 2024 Standard is a classic, one-time desktop licence for basic project management. The programme is suitable where schedules, Gantt charts, task dependencies, deadline control, costs, and resource loading are crucial, but without the server collaboration features known from the Professional edition.

This is a good version for one person or a small team that plans projects locally on a Windows computer. In practice, Project Standard 2024 allows you to quickly build a project plan, set milestones, critical path, and progress reports without the need to implement Project Online or Project Server.

Support for Project 2024 ends on 9 October 2029. This is a version with a long, predictable life cycle, which is why it is often chosen by companies that prefer a licence without a subscription.

Important note on compatibility

If you already have Microsoft Office installed, Project must have the same architecture and installation method. The most common problem is trying to install 64-bit Project alongside 32-bit Office.

Downloading the installer

It is safest to download the installer after assigning the key to a Microsoft account.

Standard path

1. Go to the Microsoft activation page and log in to the account to which you want to assign the licence.
2. Enter the 25-character product key.
3. After linking the licence, go to the services and subscriptions section.
4. Download the Project 2024 Standard installer.
5. Run the installer only after closing all Office applications.

Installation step by step

Graphical installation

1. Close Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and other Microsoft applications.
2. Check if there is an old, conflicting version of Project or Visio on the computer.
3. Run the downloaded installer as an administrator.
4. Wait for the installer to download the components and complete the configuration.
5. After completion, run Microsoft Project from the Start menu.
6. Log in to the same Microsoft account to which you assigned the licence, if the installer asks for it.

If the installation ends with a compatibility error, first check:

• whether Office is in 32-bit or 64-bit version,
• whether Project has the same architecture,
• whether both installations are in Click-to-Run technology.

Activation

Activation in the programme interface

1. Open Microsoft Project.
2. Go to File > Account.
3. Click Change product key if the programme has not activated automatically.
4. Enter the key and confirm.
5. Connect the programme to the internet and wait for the activation to complete.

Activation in the command line

Project is part of the Office family, so activation in CMD is done through ospp.vbs, not slmgr.vbs.

Telephone activation

If online activation fails, use Microsoft's telephone activation at 00 800 121 1654. During the call, have ready:

• the product key,
• the installation ID displayed by the wizard,
• the Microsoft account used to assign the licence.

Brief note on other products

We use ospp.vbs for products from the Office family, such as Project or Visio. For Windows, we use slmgr.vbs /ipk and slmgr.vbs /ato, for Visual Studio: Help > Register Product > Unlock with Product Key, and CAL products are not software, but a licence document. Antivirus programmes such as Norton, Bitdefender, ESET, McAfee, and Avast are activated through the manufacturer's account, not through ospp.vbs.

Verification of activation

You can check activation in two ways.

In the programme

Go to File > Account. A message should appear, such as Product activated or Licensed Product.

In CMD

cscript ospp.vbs /dstatus

Troubleshooting

1. "Cannot install 64-bit version because you have 32-bit Office"

Cause: incompatible architecture.
Solution: install Project in the same bit version as Office or uninstall the conflicting version.

2. "This is not a valid product key"

Cause: typo, incorrect edition or key not for this version.
Solution: check if the key is exactly for Project 2024 Standard and re-enter it without errors.

3. Error 0xC004F050

Cause: key does not match the installed edition.
Solution: ensure you have Project Standard 2024 installed, not Professional or another generation.

4. Error 0xC004C060

Cause: key has been blocked or previously misused.
Solution: contact the seller, and if necessary, activate by phone through 00 800 121 1654.

5. Error 30182-1 or 30015-11

Cause: connection, firewall, proxy, or network protection issue.
Solution: disable VPN, check internet connection, run the installer as administrator, and try again.

6. Installer stops at the download stage

Cause: Click-to-Run service malfunction or system has old Office remnants.
Solution: restart the computer, repair Office, or remove old components before new installation.

7. Project starts but shows "Unactivated product"

Cause: license not assigned to the correct Microsoft account.
Solution: log in to the account used for key redemption and reactivate.
