Windows Server 2016 with 16 cores.

Microsoft Windows Server 2016 Standard 16 Core Microsoft Windows Server 2016 Standard 16 Core with 16 cores is a server operating system adapted for cloud work. It is the successor to Windows Server 2012. It was created with enterprises in mind, enabling them to efficiently create and manage computer networks, process data, and enhance security.

Windows Server 2016 is an operating system designed for enterprises that are not yet operating in the cloud or whose virtualization of physical environments is in the early stages. Windows Server 2016 will thus be a huge support for those companies that decide to switch to a cloud environment.

Windows Server 2016 was developed alongside the client version of Windows 10. However, the two systems differ in functionality. Windows 10 is perfect for home use during individual work, while with the installed Windows Server system, you can manage multiple workstations, data, or even services.

What else differentiates the Windows 10 and Windows Server Standard 2016 operating systems? Windows 10 is an operating system for use as a desktop, allowing us to physically manage system functionalities. However, despite Windows Server having remote desktop services, it is often recommended to install it without a graphical interface, mainly to speed up its startup.

Once Windows Server Standard 2016 is launched, the differences between the two operating systems become even more apparent. If we have the GUI (Graphical User Interface) installed, we can manage the functions and settings of Windows Server Standard through the Server Manager. Here, the administrator can add various functions, such as DHCP services or domain services in Action Directory. The installed functions will enable, among other things, remote deployment of the operating system on other computers or creating domain users. These functions are not available in the basic version of the Windows 10 operating system.

    Windows Server 2016 Licensing Model

One of the new features introduced with the Windows Server 2016 version is the change in the licensing model. Now the license covers cores, not processors, as was the case with previous Standard and Datacenter versions. What does this mean for the user? For any edition of Windows Server 2016, processor licenses will be replaced with CAL Licenses. This change removes any discrepancies associated with different product licensing models.

The CAL license will need to cover all server processor cores. Licenses can be purchased for as few as 8 processor cores, which was the minimum license required on a server. It's worth noting that a purchased Windows Server CAL license offers the administrator, user, or device the right to access other versions of Microsoft Windows Server.

What do you gain by purchasing Microsoft Windows Server 2016 Standard 16 Core?

The benefits of installing Windows Server 2016 Standard don't end with the ability to change the work environment to the cloud. Purchasing this operating system allows for, among other things, creating your own databases while simultaneously enhancing their security. This is ensured by, among other things, the ability to individually set protection levels. This allows you to freely decide which users will have access to specific data. Regarding security, it's worth mentioning that Windows Server has taken care of it even in terms of the web browser. The built-in Internet Explorer in the system is so well secured that breaking its security is practically impossible.

What else makes it worth buying Windows Server 2016 in the standard version? The system has an SMB Direct feature, which allows for fast file sharing. The servers are also aimed at collaboration. What does this mean in practice for an enterprise? They are less burdened due to the ability to distribute specific roles across them. When one server handles, for instance, one or two roles, the other takes over the remaining functions.

An undeniable advantage of the Windows Server operating system is also the ability to handle more powerful hardware, which is extremely desirable in business systems. By comparison, client Windows has a memory limit of 2 TB of RAM, while Windows Server has up to 24 TB. Of course, individual clients rarely have a greater need for RAM. However, in the case of a server operating system, which will be tasked with managing several computers, or even virtual machines, a few TB of additional RAM can definitely come in handy. Additionally, Windows Server allows for the use of up to 64 processor sockets.

An advantage of Windows Server 16 Standard is also the lifetime license and the ability to configure additional devices for all computers connected within a single local network, such as printers or scanners.

Since Windows Server 2016 Standard was created for the needs of enterprises, all entertainment applications have been limited, focusing only on the most necessary and advanced features that are meant to improve the operation of the company.

The only thing worth remembering when purchasing Standard Windows Server is that this version does not have the options for Shielded Virtual Machines, Software Defined Networking, Storage Spaces Direct, and Storage Replica. Additionally, some services, such as remote desktop, will require the purchase of special CAL licenses.
